Amperslash Exchange Letter

I love love love the concept for this exchange: blurring the lines between relationships and letting things just hang (temporarily or permanently) in this ill-defined middle is one of my very favourite things to do to my ships!! <3

Here’s a list of some takes on this dynamic that I really love to see:

I'm so excited!!! I've been waiting months since I found out about this exchange <3 )

40 Days of Drabbles - is back with a twist

If you followed me from livejournal, you may have remembered I used to do a 40 Days of Drabbles (or at least a few times), instead of just keeping it to myself in this upcoming year, I figured I'd make a community dedicated to it because why not and change it from just being during lent and starting it whenever you want.

So check out [community profile] 40daysofdrabbles!!

8 new icons for my 100ships table

This time, only about half a year has passed until I remembered to make a few more icons for my [community profile] 100ships table. \o/

There are eight new ones - hover for fandom and pairing:

#12 – Sunlight #18 – Blush #43 – Yellow #54 – Rainbow
#58 – Ash #64 – Lipstick #69 – Flirt #78 – Leather

blathering
I'm especially happy with these:

* the Sunlight one, it says "[you used to] shine so brightly", a comment that the FL made about the ML multiple times in the first few episodes, and here they're kissing in the light of the setting sun, surrounded by beautiful grass.
* the Yellow one, which is from the proposal scene in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, where he sings a song to her. Someone made a clip on twitter where it's evident that Wu Lei actually sang Coldplay's Yellow to her, but since they couldn't use the song in the final product, they had to write another song (which he sings in the OST).
* the Lipstick one, where Song Sanchuan uses Liang You'an's lipstick to write her name on the alumni board of her university. That's her name as he wrote it, on the icon.
* the Leather one, where Ling Buyi is wearing the leather armor she sewed for him, which everyone thinks is chicken (why?) but it's supposed to be Mandarin duck. The "why a duck" quote is from the Marx Brothers (youtube clip).

The table is here: https://tinny.dreamwidth.org/704185.html. There are currently 48 icons in it.

Carpal tunnel, books, oh my

Realized I haven't really done a personal or semi-personal post in a while, since I've mostly been posting to [community profile] tv_talk for any show discussions and mainly just posting fics for [community profile] xmen100  and [community profile] mcu100, I'll start posting here with my TV comments again, just so I have them in one place again.

Well I officially got the diagnosis of carpal tunnel of my wrists & elbows (didn't even know it could go up to the elbow) so yay? At least I got the official diagnosis and not just wondering if I'm just making up in my head. The doctor said I should be okay without surgery for now unless I want it to happen, otherwise my next check up with him is in six months. (Or sooner if it gets worse) I guess between working my full time job (plus part-time job) and spending time at home on the computer within the last few months made my symptoms flare up again - since I feel like it's been ages since it was this bad. Which might be one of the reasons I stopped going on the computer? I can't remember. I think it was just working too much and being too exhausted to go to the basement (where the computer was). However while I was at the appointments I didn't feel any pain or achiness/stiffness/numbness but literally a day later and here's the pain back. FML. That always happens to me.

Also got my first tooth removed since my wisdom teeth like 10+ years ago so dealing with that sucked. Honestly just the anxiety before hand was worse (and the bill). Besides that the taste of blood that for two days and then the bone marrow/blood clot disgusting taste was horrible (I thought I was infected it was so gross). Otherwise I didn't have a lot of pain so that was good. A lot of mashed potatoes and egg sandwiches for the last week.

In other news I joined [community profile] thestoryinside for their October books/buddy exchange - my buddy [personal profile] monkiainen picked The Meg by Steve Alten (horror), Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (LGBT, contemporary, female author), and The Alienist - Caleb Carr (historical fiction) for me. In return I picked out Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown (LGBTQ, contemporary, female author), Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall (LGBTQ, contemporary) and Alien: Echo by Mira Grant (Horror, LGBTQ, female author). I picked out the first two books for them since I really enjoyed them (I have Boyfriend Material in audio & book forms heh^^ & I can't wait for the 3rd book in the series/trilogy? - But I also recommend anything Alexis Hall BTW, I've read/listened to most of them). I'm pretty sure I know where the books I need to grab are (luckily they're from the front of the alphabet so I'm pretty sure they are actually where they are supposed to be). I might actually do the Meg first - I was thinking of maybe doing Leah on the Offbeat first since I technically had it on my TBR pile for ages compared to the other two, but I think Meg is shorter so it might be easier to read? We'll see, I'll try to find them tomorrow so I can start on them.

In other book news, I started to listening to audiobooks again at work since most of my current podcasts don't have enough for me to binge without touching my phone a lot (and since that's a big no-no at work, audiobooks are the way to go since they are USUALLY at least 6+hrs). So far I listened to:
  • The Singles Dads Club (books: The Dare, The Soul Mate, Penthouse Prince, & Only for Tonight) by Kendall Ryan - which were just okay.... I can't really recommend them unless you just want to listen to that type of romance books but if they are super cheap, sure why not. I think they were on sale at libro.fm when I bought them.
  • Zomromcom by Olivia Dade - I really definitely recommend this one! Zombies, Vampires, trolls, fae, and witches included! I really hope this won't be the last supernatural/fantasy novel by Olivia. I think there at least has to be a sequel. I also have the paperbook copy... 'cause just in case.
  • Time to Shine by Rachel Reid - I recommend this if you like MM hockey romance. It's pretty good, longer than you expect so a bit of a slow burn. I identify very heavily with the Landon character which probably makes me like it more than anyone. If only I could find my own Casey.
  • Heartless by Gena Showalter - Very dark fae romance like super dark, where even I almost stopped a few times from listening/finishing. It has mixed reviews on Goodreads due to that so just beware if you start it. While it was like instant attraction, it was actually a bit of a slow burn for the major of it. I'm still not sure if I want to read the second book... maybe if it goes on sale.
  • In Charm's Way by Lana Harper - Part of the Thistle Grove book series that I started either last year or this year in paperback but never finished. It's a witch/half-fae romance. It's so weird that this is the third book that dealt with the fae - I feel like I never read those books. Anyway, still haven't finished it yet but probably on Monday since I only five hours left. I definitely recommend the series BTW especially if you like queer romance & supernatural type stuff.
I'm also reading Voidwalker by S. A. MacLean, I'm on chapter 15, it's oddly addictive and unlike trying to read the Orange Priory of last year, the world-building of this book is sooo much better. It helps it's only one POV and not like twenty, but yeah. And yay a monster romance for October. Reading it alongside [community profile] villagewitch so it's kinda like a mini-bookclub. :)

Worked on [community profile] galorechallenge prompt website this week. Still not complete, but I'm trying. Merging all the Marvel stuff together as well as all the DC stuff together minus the Smallville one, so those pages are going to probably be the last ones worked on. I merged them just because it all the characters are basically set in the same universe anyway and having the MCU/DCEU separate was annoying me. Anyway NEW PROMPTS WILL BE NEEDED so feel free to suggest new ones (even if you don't plan to join in - maybe someone will write them).

Made some icons for [community profile] seasons_of_fandom... I'll have to add those to [community profile] harpieicons eventually. Also participated in a couple challenges (see the Book Title Poetry - previous entry).

Anyway that's it for now, since I have to get to some sleep.

A Cunning Art Fraud, Complete With A Goose

I will try and make a post again soon, but am now recovering from parental visit (due to me and the ME/CFS, not any fault of said parents). Yesterday, though, I got lucky at the BNA while searching for a newly-discovered address for an ancestor's siblings and found him accidentally involved in a plot to steal a painting by Petrus van Schendel. (London ancestors are v hard to find, especially when they have common names, but the joy of London is that every so often your relatives are briefly entangled with someone or something famous).

Anyway, the fraud was discovered, I was rewarded by a description of two rooms in a relative's house (29 St Mary-at-hill) and I thought some of you might enjoy the resulting magistrate's hearings:

Octoberfics Challenge 2026

I had fun with this last year so figured I'd try it again. :)

Since there are so many fanfic prompt challenges in October hosted on Tumblr, and they all look fun to do, I mix and match my favorite prompts from each event and basically try to get as many prompts filled as I can during October. It's also a great way to prep for NaNoWriMo, by getting into the habit of writing every day.

This year, I'll be using these prompt lists. Sharing them here in case anyone else would like to give one (or more) of these challenges a try:
Flufftober - 31 day challenge to write fluff. This year, there's some additional challenges and a ton of alt prompts to choose from as well.
Whumptober - The tumblr classic. 31 day challenge for writing whump and hurt/comfort fics. Four prompts to choose from each day.
Angstober - Angst writing challenge
Cozytober - Autumn-themed writing event hosted on AO3. I don't use that site anymore but the prompts are really good, so I just post my fills on tumblr instead.
Fictober - 31 dialogue prompts
Darktober - hosted by the Monthly Writing Challenges blog. 31 dark, angsty, and spooky prompts for October.
OC-tober & Ominous October - Two different prompt events hosted by the Prompt Foundry blog.

my prada's at the cleaners, along with my hoddie and my 'fuck you' flipflops

so there's a tsn sequel in the works, officially

as someone who holds the social network dear to their heart and should probably be excited about this sequel, i find it hard to muster the same excitement for a couple of reasons:

1. the social network was released FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, so once again i am being slapped in the face with the unrelentless passage of time
2. no andrew garfield :( disappointing. like i understand eduardo saverin has no monkeys in the current facebook circus (or if he does it's a very small amount) but idk, cast him as someone else! give him a different haircut! he has the range!
3. why the hell is sorkin directing. it's not like david fincher is doing anything useful nowadays
4. jeremy strong is a bit old for mark (in 2021)? not that he deserves better, but still

but there's also good things!:
1. mickey madison and jeremy allen white could make this interesting
2. jeremy strong will absolutely give the performance of a lifetime. but at what cost
3. i am IN for any media that portrays how harmful facebook has been for.... everything. existing. life. (i still need to read careless people now that i think about it)
4. maybe trent reznor and atticus ross will score it and it will be amazing

i lied, i am a bit excited. like even if it's trash i will be watching it release day. it's hard to believe it will be able to catch the same momentum and space as the first one did, but i'd be lying if tsn wasn't one of the best parts of my online life fifteen years ago (ew i need to stop typing that)

change the director!

Fannish September

Work stress continued, so the fluff-binge-watching did, too.

TV new (finished)

I went through all 56 (!) episodes of Love Like The Galaxy, a costume drama starring Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi. I like them both, but the drama is so much not my cup of tea that I was ranting about it to my friends the whole time. If you want to subject yourself to it, it's on viki (and youtube). I really just finished it for Wu Lei's face, which I was able to enjoy even in period costume for a change. The drama itself is about a young noble lady with little education or grace but a knack for physics and construction who falls in love with a young general traumatized by his whole family getting killed and bent on revenge. The characters are all cardboard cutouts and/or comic relief, the conflicts are all people being mean to each other in increasingly devious and despicable ways, and the love story is larger than life and blown this way and that by the superficial plot only meant to evoke maximum emotion from the viewer without much regard for logic. For some reason, none of this kept me from watching it to the very end, all just to see Wu Lei smile. My priorities, I show you them. This left little room for anything else this month.

HPI ended! *sob* The last four episodes all aired in September, and I enjoyed them all, especially 5x07, which was a shipper's delight from start to finish. I also liked the last episode, and it leaves us with a nice ending to a wonderful show. 5 stars no comments.

TV new (ongoing)

Oh, I forgot about Dream Within a Dream! A transmigration parody that immediately endeared itself to me by parodying Love Like The Galaxy in its first episode. :D I posted the comparison here. I have by now seen three eps and find it pretty funny! It parodies all the tropes, which is the best thing you can do with tropes, anyway. :) It's on viki.

TV continued

Phineas and Ferb, season 5. Slowly going through this instead of more meaty things (see work stress), and enjoying it. It's really still just as good as it's always been, it makes me laugh a lot. I also very much enjoy how many *friendly* scenes between Doofenschmirtz and Perry there are. (Yes, I ship them, who doesn't?)

TV (dropped)

Shine. Maybe later. I made it to ep 5 and then couldn't be bothered to continue.

Future

Things I looked at (like 20 minutes each) but did not really pick up (yet) :

Remembrance of Things Past - a short cdrama with Zhou Yutong

My Youth - a kdrama starring Song Joong Ki who I really like and would enjoy seeing in a romance (I hope?)

Dongji Rescue - screeners in terrible quality, I will wait. (But what I saw so far was very good. Better than I expected.)
