Wednesday What I'm...

Reading
  • I finished Cultish by Amanda Montell. Very interesting!
  • Ficwise... anyone surprised that I'm still reading Gradence? It's just hitting the spot lol
Watching
  • The roommate and I finished Your Sky! Super cute and sweet, I enjoyed it so much.
  • The roommate and I decided to keep the Thai BL train going, albeit with very different vibes, and watched A Tale of Thousand Stars (aka 1000stars). A rewatch for me, and it was still very good. I had not remembered that they don't even kiss until the last episode, which the roommate was a bit frustrated by, but she liked it too lol
  • And well, since we're obsessed with Thai BLs apparently, we started Never Let Me Go. We're over halfway and it's been very fun. It's also a mafia (?) drama, so it's pretty different from Your Sky and 1000stars, even if 1000stars is pretty serious too.
  • The roommate and I caught up with Game Changer. Roulette was so much fun!
  • AEW as usual. Lots of fallout from the PPV, which has been pretty mixed.
Listening
  • Nothing.
Writing
  • I did some more thorough plotting on a story I want to submit to an anthology. Which is due at the end of the month, so I really gotta get on the actual writing...

pokémon presents thoughts & z-a musings

So, about that Pokémon Presents, huh..!!!

There's a lot I want to talk about, although I also don't want to get too scattered, so I'll do my best to keep to a few key points. I also have some fanart I made to share, as an ending note, so you can also skip directly to that if you don't care about all the silly thoughts rattling inside my brain.

Onward!

bracing for impact (normal way)

We are around 20 minutes away from the Pokémon Presents and so I'm making a Dreamwidth post to occupy my mind and not be needlessly anxious about it (also it's longer than the video I was watching so I can't keep watching it until I've seen the Presents </3)

What are the news?

I finished making a new, fancier (and proper) index page for my website! This was one of my goals for a while now, and with Rentry finally starting to put ads everywhere, I decided to focus on it at long last. I followed the vision I showed in my response to the first [community profile] sunshine_revival challenge here, except I ended up not having everything stuck inside a centered div because I wanted to try something else out for once. I'm really happy with the result! In the process I also discovered Victor Mono and kind of fell in love with it, lol. I love that it's two fonts at once, so handy! Speaking of, I need to switch my Google Fonts on Lysandre Labs to Bunny Fonts instead...

Webdev has been rotting my brain from the inside out hard at this point, because I'm up to three different layouts I've worked on in like a week, lol. The latest entry is a layout for a fanlistings/shrines/etc collective! I have so many ideas for those, I thought it'd be fun to work on a place to display them all (once they've been created...) and also to have a place to display all the ones I'd like to join in the future. There are so many...

Here's what it looks like so far:

Speaking of [community profile] sunshine_revival, I started working on something for the creative prompt of Challenge 5 but haven't managed to finish it yet. T_T To be honest I'm kind of tempted to discard it and go for the journaling one, even though I'm not sure what to talk about... I don't know. I guess I'll see how I feel post Presents. (Less than 15 minutes now... I have DJ Pikachu up on the TV to keep an eye on it, lol.)

My next immediate project is to finish my creepypasta page just so that's out of the way, and then I want to at least come up with a layout for my personal website. It's probably going to be the trickiest to design because I expect I'll be extremely picky about how it looks and displays, especially if I end up using it for everything... We'll see how it goes.

I've also been contemplating signing up for [community profile] enemiestoloversex for real this year, but I think my energy is better saved up for [community profile] ficinabox, to be honest... So I probably won't. I was pleasantly surprised by how many requests I could create for though, heh. Maybe I should get into treating :P

Well, there's less than 10 minutes left, so that'll probably be all for now. Maybe I'll edit this post later with my Pokémon Presents thoughts... It'd be funny if there ended up not being that much for me to be excited about in the end. At least I got to enjoy (?) the anticipation!

(I don't think this post is long enough to warrant a cut, but feel free to let me know if you disagree and I'll add one. I've been subscribing to more people, especially people I see around small web circles; if you read this, hi! Nice to meet you!)

ETA, under cut to not spoil the Presents )

Julé! 21/31 - the icon is appropriate

***

I am tired. Because I got up at six to go swimming. In the rain. Wait. I mean I walked 20mins through rain and then got wet again in the pool. Rain had stopped for the walk home but has been really coming down today, complete with special appearances from actual hail and thunder. Today I also had to commit mass murder because one of my ceiling spiders had about 50 baby spiders and I cannot accommodate that. I feel bad (because pms I legit teared up when I vacuumed them up) because that wasn't explicitly in the rules.

[In case you want to know, these are the Rules for Spiders in Kat's House:
1. Must stay above head level but not right above. Corner of ceiling is acceptable. Right in the middle of the ceiling above the sofa is not. Being at eye level or lower where accidental touching may happen, is very not acceptable.
2. No running in the house. Only move when I cannot see it. Any and all kind of movement on furniture is verboten (see Rule 1).
3. (new addition) No babies. I'm afraid we cannot accommodate families with children. Only single, child-free professional spiders are welcome.]

The point is, that I'm tired and cannot brain, so [community profile] sunshine_revival challenge #4 'ten things that make you smile' seems like a doable thing.

These are all everyday joys, not the big grand things of love and purpose etc.

In order that I thought of it...

1. Trick's little squeaky meows. He sounds like a cross between a haunted house door and a dog toy.

2. Sound of rain. Extremely soothing.

3. The fact that I have managed to keep my Aloe Vera plants alive for over a year now. I am, as a rule, not gifted in things green and growing.

4. Blueberry coffee.

5. Putting clean laundry out to dry on the line. Collecting it once dry and folding it nicely. Truly my favourite household task.

6. Berries, fruit etc. Today I've had raspberries, peach, and honeydew melon.

7. Swimming underwater. I'm up to five slow strokes underwater at the moment, starting from 'not out of breath for any reason' position, and working on it. It's so peaceful.

8. Getting silly memes, videos, pics and messages from my friends and partners throughout the day.

9. Candles and incense. I like former a lot and latter in moderation.

10. Stickers on my work laptop. I recently had to change laptops which meant I lost all my lovely stickers on it but never fear, I ordered more. What I have on my work laptop lid and thus purposefully on full display to students and colleagues are stickers that say
  • 'Safe Space', over a Progress Pride flag with a heart in the middle
  • 'Tax the Rich', shouted by an angry cat
  • 'Capitalism caused climate change', in fetching shades of green
  • 'Pan, Poly, Proud', in Pan flag colours
  • 'Trans rights are human rights', in Trans flag colours
  • 'Work', over a silhouette of Schyuler sisters from Hamilton
  • + a sticker of a cartoon cat vomiting a rainbow and another sticker of a black cat whose fur is full of stars

Sunshine Revival 2025 - Challenge #1

I'm going to be slightly delayed in posting for the [community profile] sunshine_revival challenges this July (because Battleship!) but I've been playing along at a distance throughout and hope to catch up on my entries as soon as I can. Here's my first!

 Challenge #1 Creative Prompt
Shine a light on your own creativity. Create anything you want and share it with your community.

This challenge inspired me to finally put together a collage for the 'Hotel Reverie' episode of Black Mirror's latest series. I'd been collecting things for it since I first watched.

However, I'm not completely happy with how it turned out... I think it would have been much cooler in black and white, like the majority of the episode. So, as I'm not feeling entirely confident about it, I'm sharing some others I've made recently that I am happy with ^^

Click to embiggen!

Under the cut are fandom collages for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Wars Original Trilogy, Reservoir Dogs, and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, plus one non-fandom collage :)

Julé! 18/31 - I'll never cry because I know that it'll never change

Posting now because I predict being way too sweaty and exhausted for that after Stray Kids gig. And in honour of that, I'm posting the MV and dance practice of one of my favourite songs by them.

The song is beautiful but I also have a lot of feelings about the choreo, mainly: 1) The way it starts with everyone holding Chan's heart 😭😭😭, 2) the sequenced kneeling of Minho, Seungmin and Jeongin (the bdsm au feels I have about this), 3) Seungmin solo choreo!

PokeTube - 10 Channel & Video Recs

I watch a lot of PokeTube, so I thought I'd share some of the videos and channels I've enjoyed watching lately in case they bring you joy!

adef

Adef makes amazing Pokemon + Math + Science videos. His stuff is really fun to watch, even if you're not very STEM minded. I love his "Mathmatically Proving" series, in which he thinks too seriously about the physics of Pokemon moves and abilities. Here's my favourite of those!

The rest are under here... )

Wednesday What I'm...

Back three days and already behind, whee...

Reading
  • I finished New World Witchery by Cory Thomas Hutcheson. Very interesting book, and I enjoyed it a lot. It could have definitely delved deeper into some things, but it's a very broad subject and already very large, so I understand why it didn't.
  • I read The Fifth Di... March 2025, a short anthology of sf/f/h stories that a friend was published in. Hers and one other were really the only good stories in there.
  • I read First Test Graphic Novel by Devin Grayson and Becca Farrow, an adaptation of First Test by Tamora Pierce (Protector of the Small #1). Very good! Protector of the Small is one of my favorites, and this really made me want to reread it.
  • I started Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell, which I'd started a few years ago but had to return to the library before I got very far. I think I'm just about where I made it to last time lol
  • Ficwise, I am, unsurprisingly at this point, still on Gradence. Currently I'm reading bound to lose, bound to win by Anonymous. It's been quite awhile since I've read an arranged marriage fic, so it's been fun!
Watching
  • I got almost to the end of Your Sky, then started over with the roommate to get her into it. It worked! We're now almost at the end again lol It remains fun and cute, even with the surprisingly angsty storyline with Teerak's dad.
  • AEW as usual, plus a PPV. More on that, as well as the GCW show, on another post soon. Hopefully.
Listening
  • Listened to a bit more Jer while I worked yesterday. If anyone has other ska recs, lemme know!
Writing
  • I wrote a poem for a NaNoPoMo prompt, plus another non prompt poem.

sunshine revival challenge 4!

I'm drafting this post before going to bed because I forgot I wanted to make it until now. Uh-oh. By the time you see it I will have finished and posted it, which will probably be tomorrow morning while I have coffee and breakfast. Which is a bit like time travel, in a way. Edit from tomorrow: Unfortunately I left all the dishes to be done last night so I had to do them before I could work on this post again, so there will be no blogging while sipping coffee and eating jam on toast... alas. In fact, it will be finished and posted after lunch instead. o7

For today, more of the usual: [community profile] sunshine_revival and some other stuff. Mostly going back on some previous posts, and rambling about recent webdev adventures (the brainrot is fierce these days.)

Journaling: What is making you smile these days? Create a top 10 list of anything you want to talk about.
Creative: Write from the perspective of a house or other location.

You'll never guess what will be on my list of things that make me smile these days... )
